Female Athletes and Boots Month - Snowboard Day: Gretchen Bleiler

Snowbarding is a relatively new sport and has only been an Olympic Event since the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan. Gretchen Bleiler has been around since nearly the beginning. In 2002, Gretchen narrowly missed qualiflying due to a tiebreaker. However, four years later, Gretchen won the Silver Medal in the Halfpipe event at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy and competed in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vanouver, Canada. Gretchen is joined by other snowboarding blond-haired hotties, Hannah Teter, Lindsay Jacobellis, Elena Hight and Torah Bright. 

Like Sarah Burke, Gretchen's greatest success has been as an X Games competitor. Gretchen has four four gold medals at the X Games in the Superpipe event in 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2010. She also won a silver medal in 2007. 

Gretchen's snowboarding success has landed her on the cover FHM magazine, and has done many photoshoots for Sports Illustrated, Foam Magazine, Glamour Magazine and she even participated in a photoshoot with professional surfer Anastasia Ashley for an Old Spice campaign. She's endorsed Coca-Cola and appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Gretchen does a lot of traveling and on one trip she rode horses with fellow American snowboarder, Elena Hight in Australia.

Michelle Kwan is the most loved U.S. female athlete of

all-time. Her career is marked by unsurpassed brilliance and heartbreaking defeat. Five time World Champion (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003); Nine time U.S. Champion including eight consecutive titles from 1998 - 2005; Silver Medal at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan and Bronze Medal at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history. In 2012 Michelle was inducted into both the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the 

World Figure Skating Hall of Fame. 

Accolades and medals cannot describe how Kwan is appreciated. Michelle Kwan is one of the rare athletes who transcends her sport. Michelle's Olympic career was marked by incredible disappointment, from her missing the 1994 Winter Games in Lillihamer, Norway when Tonia Harding should have been disqualified for her role in the attack on fellow American skater, Nancy Kerrigan to her crushing defeat to Tara Lipinski at the 1998 Winter Olympic games to her eventual withdrawal from the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. 

None of those "failures" matter though. Michelle Kwan's legacy is that of a winner, her World Championships,

U.S. Championships, silver and bronze Olympic medals are only part of her legacy. Kwan never quit, she never gave up and she always had a smile at the end of the day. Kwan has come to realize her importance as a person to us all and how her willingness to continue fighting is an inspiration to everyone. 

Today, Michelle Kwan is a mentor to 2010 Winter Olympic gold medalist Yu-na Kim. They have become close friends and have skated together in Korea. The only question I have is: when did Michelle Kwan get so pretty! Her big brown eyes, long black hair and tiny body are amazing. But it's her easy laugh and infectious smile that really touches us. 

Lastly, Michelle does wear her knee-high boots from time to time. But unlike other "good girls" we don't want her to put on her boots and kick us. We just want to watch her skate.

Female Athletes and Boots Month - Ice Skating Week: Nancy Kerrigan

In the 1994 Olympics, Nancy Kerrigan was beaten and then robbed. Recently, her family has endured great drama. We sympathize with Nancy Kerrigan and all of her struggles. Yet through it all, she has maintained her regal composure. Nancy Kerrigan is a classic brunette beauty. With her thick black hair she is a natural to wear knee high black boots. 

Nancy wears knee high boots when attends important events in order accentuate her power. She is 5'4" and with her boots on, she is close to 5'8. Nancy recently participated in Caesar's Tribute II. Nancy was joined by other skating stars like Peggy Flemming, Tara Lipinkis and Michelle Kwan. Nancy wore jeans over her boots at the press conference, but Michelle and Tara stole the show by flashing their knee high boots with skirts. 

Nancy is remembered for winning two medals in the Winter Olympic Games. In 1992, she won a bronze medal and in 1994 she won the silver after a controversial judging decision. Nancy will always be a a gold medal winner in our hearts though.
